Cherry A. Murray is the Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. Murray was the deputy director for science and technology at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Her administrative responsibilities included overseeing the quality of science and technology in the laboratoryís scientific and technical programs and disciplines. Prior to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, she served for over twenty years at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies. Murray is a physicist who has been nationally recognized for her work in surface physics, light scattering and complex fluids. She is a member of the National Academy of Science, the National Academy of Engineering, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has served on the governing boards of the National Research Council and Argonne National Laboratory, and the Executive Board and Council of the National Academy of Science. Murray is also a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). In 2007, she is vice president of the APS and serves on the AAAS Board. In 1989, she won the APS Maria Goeppert-Mayer Award and was awarded the 2005 APS George Pake Prize. She is the author of two patents and more than 75 publications.
