The 2017 Siebel Scholars conference, co-sponsored by the Siebel Energy Institute, will focus on the sources and potential impact of cyber-attacks on U.S. power systems.

The Energy Grid Cybersecurity: Threats & Solutions conference will be held from March 3 – 5, in Washington, DC.

The jointly sponsored conference between the Siebel Scholars Foundation and the Siebel Energy Institute will bring together political and utility industry leaders with top energy science researchers and the wide-ranging expertise of the Siebel Scholars, to discuss solutions for increasing the resilience of energy networks.

On Saturday, March 4, at the National Academy of Sciences, acclaimed journalist Ted Koppel, author of Lights Out will moderate panel discussions with conference speakers including Richard Clarke, Cyber Security Expert and Former Counterterrorism Czar; General Michael V. Hayden, Former Director of the CIA and the NSA; Dr. Douglas Maughan, Division Director, Cyber Security Division, DHS/S&T/HSARPA, and other distinguished experts.

The conference will focus on the frequency, nature, sources, and potential impact of cyber-attacks on U.S. critical infrastructure, with a concentration on the power grid.  Our hope is to elevate the free world dialogue as it relates to this problem

Saturday evening, conference attendees and speakers will continue discussions more informally at a dinner at the Newseum in Washington, DC.

On Sunday, March 5, Siebel Scholars will work together to solve the challenge of grid cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Teams will present their ideas to the group for broader discussion.

We are expecting over 400 attendees including government leaders, energy researchers, and utilities experts from the U.S., Europe, and Asia to discuss and debate the extent of the grid cybersecurity problem and how to best secure the power grid.
