Apple Acquires Siebel Scholar Carlos Guestrin’s Machine Learning Software Startup

The startup Turi, co-founded by Siebel Scholar Carlos Guestrin (Stanford, CS ’02), was acquired by Apple earlier this month. Guestrin, chief executive of the startup, serves as Amazon professor of machine learning at the University of Washington.

Turi’s investors included Opus Capital Ventures, Vulcan Capital, Madrona Venture Group, and NEA. The startup was founded in 2013 and had its headquarters in Seattle. Customers included Adobe, Automattic, ExxonMobil, Pandora, PayPal, and Zillow.
