Ryan Shi is a PhD candidate of Societal Computing in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. His technical research lies in the areas of game theory, online learning, reinforcement learning, and recommender systems. He researches AI that helps people, contributing to the field of AI for Social Good. He works with the nonprofit sector to research AI to address societal challenges in food security, public health, wildlife conservation, and cybersecurity. The outcome of his work has been adopted by a nonprofit organization in food waste and security, with others slated for field tests. Ryan received his B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science with Honors from Swarthmore College. He also interned at Facebook to improve the news feed integrity on the Facebook App.
